David F. Montpetit

David Montpetit is an accomplished executive with a proven ability to align strategy with day-to-day operations and a comprehensive understanding of the rail transportation and port logistics sector.

David brings more than 30 years of experience in project and sales management, as well as contract negotiation and administration. He has held numerous senior leadership roles, including Vice President of External Affairs and Logistics at Coalspur Mines Limited, where he was responsible for directing transportation access and overseeing rail and port logistics operations.

David previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Western Canadian Shippers’ Coalition (WCSC) for more than 10 years and has also held Chair and Director roles since July 2014. During this period, he played a pivotal role in strengthening WCSC’s advocacy mandate, expanding its membership, and ensuring the organization’s long-term growth and sustainability. As Chief Executive Officer, David continues to provide strategic leadership to WCSC and remains actively engaged in advancing policy initiatives that enhance infrastructure investment, supply-chain performance, and operational efficiency for WCSC members.

David participates in numerous federal and provincial task forces and advisory bodies and is a highly sought contributor on transportation and supply-chain policy matters. His involvement includes the Canadian Chamber of Commerce; Supply Chain Council of Canada; Transport Canada and NRCan Railway Working Group; Transport Canada Commodity Supply Chain Table; Transport Canada Supply Chain Task Force Roundtables; Transport Canada Service Contingency Plan Initiative Steering Committee; Transport Canada Supply Chain Recovery Working Group; Active Vessel Traffic Management Program; and the Transport Canada National Supply Chain Summit. He has also appeared before both the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and the Senate of Canada Standing Committee on Transport and Communications.
