About Us

  • Western-based, multi-commodity Coalition
  • Member issue driven organization
  • Board experienced and knowledgeable in the commodity transportation sector

Western Canadian Shippers’ Coalition (WCSC) is the voice for western shippers for whom a safe, efficient, environmentally sustainable and cost effective transportation function is vital to their success.

WCSC membership is comprised of a unique, multi-commodity group of shippers:

  • aggregate, asphalt, cement, concrete, fly ash
  • coal
  • copper
  • energy
  • forestry
  • industrial minerals
  • oilfield services
  • potash
  • renewable energy
  • sulphur
  • zinc

Our membership includes some of the largest Canadian and North American shippers in these sectors. Collectively, members provide tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in communities across Canada, ship billions of dollars’ worth of product annually, and spend more than $6.5 billion on total transportation costs.  The point of commonality for our members is a reliance on market-dominant providers of rail freight, truck and port transportation.

Government advocacy is a primary service we offer our membership. We discuss and share perspectives and ideas on important transportation issues related to rail, port/terminals and trucking, and develop clear positions and messages to take to government. We provide government with a one-window approach to engage in meaningful dialogue with multiple commodity sectors.
